“I want to thank you people for coming here. I wasn’t awake before today, but now I’m awake.”
These words were spoken by a woman at the end of a one-day workshop in Bertoua, Cameroon. Heads nodded all around her.
It’s such a simple message, really. Work is a gift. God has created us in His image, and He is a working, creative God. We get to worship God, not just when we sing, but in all that we do.
Yet it continues to be received with such passion by those who have struggled under the weight of “work as drudgery” or working for money (which is never enough), or working for power (which is fleeting).
Simple but transformational. What a privilege to share this message.
And it was an even greater privilege to present it to the Council of Protestant Churches of Cameroon, an alliance of twelve denominations, including Presbyterian, Baptist, Lutheran, and Full Gospel, encompassing 17,000 pastors and totaling 11.5 million believers. To get such leaders in a room together for two days was a great feat, and then to have them affirm this for their denominations felt like another confirmation of how God is at work in His church.
